Challenges and perspectives for the teaching of geografic climatology at school
Abstract
This article aims to discuss the reality of teaching climatology in Geography classes and the training of teachers in this area. We perceive a great lack of preparation for the approach of this theme by the teachers, being that often this content is approached superficially or even not mentioned in the schools. When taught in class, the subject is presented from the textbooks, in a decontextualized, static, disjointed and dissociated form of social relations. This makes it difficult for the student to understand and assimilate certain content that needs to be taught in a more practical way or associated with the world around him. In view of this, we developed an extension course on Teaching Climatology for teachers of Geography of the Basic Education network and for undergraduates in Geography. It was possible to obtain results on how these teachers and students learned and transmitted the contents of climatology in schools. We understand that climatology fits the type of knowledge that must be treated with theoretical and practical classes, in order to understand its dynamics and its influence on students daily lives.
